IPL™
Photo Rejuvenation
Intense
Pulsed Light (IPL)Photo Rejuvenation The
Lumenis IPL offers gentle, non-ablative treatments
using broad spectrum light to treat sun spots,
photoaging (sun damage), and redness caused by
rosacea, through a process called photorejuvenation
for the face and body. The most commonly treated
areas are the face, neck, chest and hands. IPL
targets blood vessels and melanin and works without
damaging the outer layer of skin. Reports show
that patients see a 70-90% improvement in their
skin tone and texture. The number of treatments
varies, but five are generally recommended for
best results. Treatments take about 30 minutes
and are typically performed at three to four week
intervals with minimal downtime. It is recommended
to limit sun exposure a few weeks before and following
treatment.

Fraxel™
Fraxel
lasers deliver remarkable results with fast recovery.
The range of Fraxel treatments vary in aggressiveness,
downtime, number of procedures needed and results
achieved. The most aggressive treatment, Fraxel
re:pair™, can produce dramatic improvement
for severely damaged skin. This is a single treatment
procedure but will require more downtime and after-treatment
wound care. Fraxel re:store™ offers less
aggressive treatment with minimal downtime, and
produces significant results for mild to moderately
damaged skin over the course of 3 to 6 treatments.
Fraxel is the pioneer of "fractional
photothermolysis," a technology in which
thousands of microscopic laser columns treat a
fraction of the skin at a time without affecting
the surrounding tissue. These microscopic “treatment
zones” remove damaged cells and cause your
skin to heal naturally. Your body’s natural
healing process replaces damaged cells with new,
healthy ones, and stimulates collagen formation
to produce younger, smoother, healthier skin.
When considering which treatment
option is best for you, you and your physician
should discuss the trade-off between downtime
and results to determine the best option that
fits your skin condition and lifestyle.
Fraxel
Re:pair™
Fraxel re:pair™ corrects severe skin damage.
It is a pre-emptive strike against a facelift,
offering a non-invasive and non-surgical way to
tighten skin and improve your appearance by reversing
years of sun damage and aging. What it treats:
moderate to severe wrinkles, irregular texture,
age spots/sunspots, and sun-induced redness. The
results are dramatic and immediate. As your skin
heals, the results also progress. Over 3-6 months,
the deep layers of skin continue to heal, stimulating
continued collagen production, and leaving you
with progressively smooth skin. Downtime: Most
return to routine activities after a week
Fraxel
Re:store™
Fraxel Re:store™ is the original and most
popular Fraxel treatment. Fraxel re:store™
is the Gold Standard for resurfacing damaged skin
with minimal downtime. What it treats: mild to
moderate wrinkles, wrinkles around the eyes, acne
scars, surgical scars, age spots/sunspots, melasma
and actinic keratoses/precancerous skin lesions.
This laser effectively fades age and sun spots,
tightens pores, and reduces wrinkles. Fraxel Re:store™
works by resurfacing the skin and stimulating
collagen formation, resulting in smoother skin
with improved skin tone and texture. Fraxel Re:store™
is the treatment of choice for acne scarring,
as well as surgical scars, as it removes the damaged
epidermis and stimulates collagen remodeling in
the deep dermis level. Fraxel Re:store™
offers uniform laser pulses to provide safe and
effective skin resurfacing, producing significant
results with little downtime. Several treatments
are recommended.Downtime: After the procedure,
you can expect redness and swelling. Most patients
return to regular activities within a day or two.

Laser
Hair Removal
The
Lumenis LightSheer hair removal laser permanently
reduces unwanted hair. It can be used anywhere
on the body and works on all skin types and most
hair colors, though it is most effective on dark,
coarse hair. The most commonly treated areas are
the face, underarms, bikini area, back, and legs.
Laser hair removal is also a very effective treatment
for Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB), or razor
bumps. PFB is a common condition in which the
regrowing hair, after shaving, curves back towards
and pierces the skin, resulting in an acne-like
bump. PFB is especially prevalent in populations
with curly hair, affecting nearly 85% of men of
African decent and a growing number of women.
The LightSheer's excellent safety profile for
all skin types, including the darkest skin, makes
it a safe and effective treatment of pseudofolliculitis
barbae.
Laser hair removal works by producing
a light pulse that is absorbed by melanin in the
hair follicle, damaging the follicular epithelium,
and thereby destroying the hair follicle and its
potential for re-growth. The laser works best
on hair in the anagen, or active, growth phase.
Therefore, several treatments are usually needed
to “catch” hair in this phase and
achieve optimal hair reduction.

Injectable
Fillers
As
we age, our skin loses collagen, causing lines
and wrinkles. Cosmetic dermal fillers add volume
to specific areas on the face where collagen has
been lost, to soften and smooth wrinkles, such
as those around the nose and mouth. Fillers can
also be used to enhance a feature such as cheeks
and lips. Cosmetic dermal fillers include collagen,
hyaluronic acid, calcium-based products, and other
substances. You and your physician will decide
which product is best for you. You will be pre-treated
with numbing cream and/or a numbing injection
prior to treatment. Each product is injected under
the skin and is carefully placed to correct the
wrinkles or folds being treated. The procedure
usually takes about 30 minutes and the results
are immediate. The effects of dermal fillers last
between 6 months to a year.
Restylane®
and Perlane® are hyaluronic acid-based
injectable fillers. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally
in the body to provide fullness to the skin and
volume; these products are modified to last longer.
Perlane® is generally used for deeper creases,
while Restylane® is used for more superficial
lines. Both products are FDA-approved and have
been shown to last at least 6 months.
Juvéderm®
is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel that helps
restore volume to your skin. Hyaluronic acid is
found naturally in the body to provide fullness
to the skin and volume. It is used to fill in
lines around the nose and to reduce the lines
and wrinkles around the mouth. It can also be
injected into the lips to fill them out.
Radiesse®
is an injectable filler consisting of calcium-based
microspheres that have been shown to help stimulate
your body to produce new collagen. This allows
for long lasting results – up to one year.

Chemical
Peels
Chemical peels improve and smooth skin tone and
texture by removing the damaged outer layers.
At Richmond Dermatology and Laser Specialists,
we use glycolic acid in strengths ranging from
30 to 70 percent to treat acne, sun damage and
sun spots, uneven pigment, and fine lines. Chemical
peels can be performed on the face, chest, back,
arms and hands.
The
application of glycolic acid to the skin causes
a controlled separation of the lop layers of skin.
New skin is regenerated and is smoother and more
evenly pigmented. Often referred to as a “lunchtime
peel,” the treatment takes only a few minutes
to perform and has no downtime. We usually recommend
a series of four to six treatments, performed
about two weeks apart, followed by maintenance
peels at one to two month intervals. It is important
to avoid significant sun exposure for a few days
following each peel.

BOTOX®
Cosmetic / Dysport™
BOTOX®
Cosmetic / Dysport™
Cosmetic is a highly popular non-surgical injection
that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines,
forehead creases, and “crow’s feet.”
In fact, it is now the most popular physician-administered
cosmetic procedure in the United States! The most
common area treated is the area between the brows,
where people feel their frown lines make them
look stressed, tired, or unapproachable. It is
also often used to treat forehead lines and “crow’s
feet,” or lines around the eyes. It helps
give you a restful, relaxed look that brightens
your face. BOTOX® Cosmetic / Dysport™
Cosmetic is also a very effective treatment for
hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). The procedure
takes just a few minutes to perform and there
is no downtime. Results usually last three to
four months.
